Policy

All students in grades TK-5 visit the library as a class one day a week at a set time. All middle school students visit the library every other week as a class at a set time. However, any student may come to the library before school (7:40am to 8:00am) for any library-related reason. Due to our dismissal procedure and the need for supervision, students must either have a parent with them or have arranged with me beforehand to use the library after school.

  • Students in grades TK-2 may check out one book per week.
  • Students in grades 3-5 may check out two books per week.
  • Students in grades 6-8 may check out three books per week.

Books must be returned in order for a student to check out another book. If a student has 2 or 3 books checked out and returns one book, then they may check out a new book.

There is a one day grace period for overdue books. The overdue fine is 25 cents a day per book for 1st - 8th grade and 5 cents a day per book for indergarten, not including weekends or holidays. If a student is absent, they do not need to pay a fine, provided they return the book the day they return to school. However, they will need to tell me they have been absent. Most teachers are usually willing to allow students to take care of library business at the start of each school day. It is the student's responsibility to see that his/her books are returned and fines paid. Not being able to visit the library will not be an excuse for not paying the fine.

I teach the students that they share our library books with 740 other students. This year I have set a special emphasis on being good stewards of our materials. Please help your child find a safe place for his/her library book and make sure they hold them carefully, use paper bookmarks, and keep them away from food, water, young siblings, pets and the elements.

Lost or damaged books must be paid for (the price of the book and a $5.00 processing fee) before another book may be checked out. A book is considered lost when it is one month overdue. Money paid for a lost book will be refunded if the book is returned undamaged within a month. However, the overdue fine will be subtracted from the amount refunded. After a month, no refunds will be given. It will be your choice whether or not to keep the book, or donate it to the library.
